Ingredients

  • 6 green cardamom pods , optional
  • 2 ripe mangos
  • 500 gm low-fat natural yoghurt
  • ice cubes
  • runny honey , optional

Instructions

  1. Crush the cardamom pods in a pestle and mortar (if using) and discard the green husks. Bash the seeds to a fine powder and set aside.
  2. Cut the juicy flesh off the mangos (the riper they are, the better), leaving the stone in the middle and trimming away all the skin. Place the flesh and any juices into a liquidiser with the yoghurt, ice cubes, 1 tablespoon of honey and the ground cardamom.

  3. Blitz until smooth, have a taste, and add a little more honey, if needed. Serve straightaway.

Tips:

  • Ripe Mangoes: Use ripe and sweet mangoes for the best flavor. If mangoes are out of season, you can use canned or frozen mango pulp, available in many grocery stores.
  • Sweeteners: Adjust the sweetness according to your taste. Mangoes are naturally sweet, so you might need less sugar depending on their ripeness.
  • Vegan Version: To make a vegan Mango Lassi, substitute regular yogurt with dairy-free yogurt (such as coconut yogurt or almond yogurt) and use non-dairy milk (like coconut milk, almond milk, or oat milk).
  • Thicker Lassi: For a richer and thicker lassi, use full-fat yogurt and reduce the amount of milk. If you prefer a thinner lassi, simply add more milk or water.
  • Extra Flavors: You can experiment with flavors by adding a dash of rose water, vanilla extract, or even a small pinch of nutmeg for variation.

Health Benefits of Mango Lassi:

  • Rich in Nutrients: Mangoes are high in vitamin C, vitamin A, and antioxidants, which help boost immunity, improve skin health, and support digestion.
  • Probiotic Benefits: Yogurt provides probiotics that are beneficial for gut health, helping with digestion and boosting the immune system.
  • Hydrating: Mango Lassi is made with yogurt and milk, both of which provide hydration along with essential nutrients.
  • Cooling: It’s a perfect drink to cool down in the hot summer months, as the yogurt and mangoes have natural cooling properties.

Mango Lassi is the ultimate refreshing drink for mango lovers. Whether served as a snack, breakfast, or dessert, it’s a wonderful treat to enjoy throughout the year!
