Ingredients

  • 15 small fresh mushrooms
  • 2 tbsp plain curd
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder as per taste
  • 1/4 tsp jeera powder roasted
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala or chaat masala
  • 1-2 tbsp besan
  • 1/2 tsp garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp ginger paste
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • Salt as per taste

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients (except oil) to the mushrooms and mix gently by hand.  Leave this aside for about 30 mins to an hour.

  2. Heat the oil in a large pan and either string the mushrooms on kebab sticks and roast grill them until browned or add as individual pieces until nicely grilled.

  3. Stick toothpicks through the mushrooms and serve with green chutney, raw onions, and lemon pieces.

Tips:

  • Marination Time: The longer you marinate the mushrooms, the more flavorful they will be. Ideally, let them marinate for at least 30 minutes, but marinating them for a few hours will give a deeper flavor.
  • Mushroom Type: Button mushrooms are commonly used, but you can experiment with other varieties like portobello mushrooms for a heartier taste and texture.
  • Spice Level: Adjust the amount of red chili powder based on your preferred spice level.
  • Vegan Option: Use plant-based yogurt like coconut yogurt or almond yogurt to make this dish vegan-friendly.

Health Benefits:

  • Mushrooms: Mushrooms are a great source of antioxidants, vitamins (B-vitamins), and minerals like potassium and selenium. They are also low in calories, making them a healthy addition to your diet.
  • Spices: The spices used in the marinade, such as cumin, turmeric, and garam masala, have anti-inflammatory and digestive benefits.
  • Protein: The yogurt in the marinade helps provide some protein, and mushrooms themselves are a good source of plant-based protein.

Grilled Mushroom Tikka is a great vegetarian option for a smoky, flavorful, and protein-packed dish. Whether you’re making it for a special occasion, a BBQ, or just as a healthy snack, this recipe is sure to be a hit! Enjoy it with a refreshing drink or as a part of a larger Indian meal.
